Children grow and develop in many different ways as they get older. As parents, it is important to understand each stage of development and provide suitable support and experiences.
However, every child develops at a different pace. There is no single standard that applies to every child. In this article, we will look at some common patterns and characteristics of children’s growth and development by age. Parents raising children can use these ideas as a general reference.
Infancy and Toddlerhood: Ages 0–2
The first stage covers the period from birth to around age two. During this time, children grow and change very quickly.
Physically, they gain weight and height, develop better body balance, learn to walk, and become better at using their hands and fingers.
Mentally and emotionally, they gradually learn to express their feelings and needs. They also begin to understand words, gestures, and other signs.
Socially, they form relationships with their parents and other people around them. They also begin to develop a sense of self and become more aware of themselves.

Early Childhood: Ages 3–5
From around ages three to five, children’s growth and development continue, and they become more independent and creative.
Physically, their muscle strength and coordination improve. They become able to enjoy activities such as riding a bicycle and playing with a ball.
Mentally, their imagination and memory develop. They often become more interested in stories, picture books, and pretend play.
Socially, they learn how to interact with friends and take part in groups. They also begin to understand and follow simple rules and manners.

School Age: Ages 6–12
The school-age period generally covers ages six to twelve. During this stage, children’s development becomes more stable, while their learning skills and ability to evaluate themselves continue to grow.
Physically, their strength, coordination, and overall physical abilities improve. They may become more interested in sports, dance, and other physical activities.
Mentally, their logical thinking and judgment develop. They can focus more deeply on reading, hobbies, and subjects that interest them.
Socially, they become more aware of the groups they belong to and the roles they have within those groups. They also develop stronger communication and cooperation skills.

Children grow and develop in different ways at each stage of childhood. This is because their physical, mental, and social skills change as they get older. For example, babies learn to walk and communicate. Young children become more independent and learn how to play with others. School-age children develop logical thinking, communication, and cooperation skills. However, every child develops at a different pace. Understanding these stages can help parents support their children while respecting individual differences.
たとえば、最初の文の「Children grow and develop in different ways」を「Every child grows in a different way」に変えても構いません。
